Most people are born, live, and die near the same place. Many do not. Immigrant research follows the trail they left behind and the trail they started in the new place.
The reason they left is part of the search
Did an ancestor leave the old country for a better life, to escape persecution, to chase work, or for a reason the family story only half remembers? If they left a place, they usually left records. When they arrived, they usually left a new set.
We look for evidence of the old family stories, and we separate what the records support from what they do not.
Where, when, and in which language
Experience matters here because the useful record is often not the obvious one. We know where to search and which years are worth searching.
We have language skills that help identify and translate records. Our paleography covers many kinds of script and handwriting in many languages.
